The
National Archives of India has been conducting theoretical as well as practical training courses
in various disciplines of Archives keeping since 1941 catering to the training needs of the records
creating agencies and custodial institutions both within and outside India. State Archives, Libraries
etc., for scientific management and preservation of ever-growing documentary heritage. The Institute
of Archival Training was set up in the National Archives of India in 1976 and was re-christened
School of Archival Studies in 1980. The School also has a well stocked
library with Reading Room and a Conservation Laboratory.
The courses currently offered by the School include One Year Diploma Course and
a number of Short-Term Certificate Courses at the professional and sub-professional levels. Further
in order to meet the rising demand of trained personnel to supervise the Departmental Records Rooms
being set up by the records creating agencies under the Public Record Act, 1993. Orientation courses
are being conducted for the benefit of Departmental Records Officers in Ministries/Departments,
Public Sector Undertakings etc.
