Message of Director General

Professor Mushirul Hasan

Dear User,
I am delighted that the Webpage of “Online view/sale of publications” of National Archives of India’s publications is being launched. It is a very useful page which has a catalogue as well as thumbnails of publications for view and sale, for researchers as well as other stakeholders. This facility will foster a stronger connect between NAI and researchers. Now, the publications of NAI will be available on click of mouse around the globe.

National Archives of India, established at Kolkata in 1891 as Imperial Record Department, came to New Delhi in 1911 to its present location at Janpath (New Delhi). Feedback was being provided by various users that the researchers/users who wish to purchase NAI publication(s), should not be required to physically visit NAI. In the era of e-commerce, when most items are available online, the launching of the facility of online view/sale of NAI publications through website namely, www.nationalarchives.nic.in will add one more feather in the cap of NAI and facilitate users.

I would like to further inform that 101 titles have been brought out by NAI so far, with many of the titles having several volumes. Out these 101 titles, 40 are priced publications, 49 are non-priced, 8 are reprints and 4 are facsimile copies of the manuscripts preserved in the National Archives of India.

The new webpage has been designed to be fast, easy to navigate, secure and user-friendly. I welcome visitors to utilize the featured content on the page. Hopefully, all stakeholders will appreciate this useful initiative and keep motivating us to strengthen this page by adding more and more publications.

New Delhi, 11 April 2025.
